Tucked down the laneway of St. Nicholas Street in Downtown Toronto is where you'll find our small bar and brewpub! We brew timeless beer styles, both old and new with a specific focus on English Cask Ale, refreshing German Lagers as well as Hoppy American Pale Ales and IPAs. Drinkability, balance and quality of ingredients are key to our approach.

Clean and dry, refreshing and effervescent with a pleasant bitterness and mildly floral hop aroma. Spuma is a pilsner made from German malts and noble hops. Simplicity at its best.

VOLO LINO
india pale ale, 6.7%
Lino is a classic American IPA that showcases a medley of candied citrus, pine and resin hop character. The bone-dry finish, rich malt character and integrated bitterness lend to it's balanced drinkability.

hazy pale ale, 5.5%
Juicy, hazy and smooth! Masino delivers what you'd expect from a hazy New England IPA, but with a lower alcohol content, allowing for greater sessionability. Citra and Mosaic hops bring the juice on this one.

A bitter pale ale harkening back to the earlier days of American Craft Brewing. Pine and citrus hop notes dominate the aroma with a solid backbone of English and German base malts to keep the hops in check.

Succo is our series of hazy experiments where we'll try new hop combinations, play with new yeast and mess with the grain bill too. The result, however, will always be hazy, juicy and full of big hop aroma and flavour.

VOLO AVENA
dry stout, 4.5%
Avena is a dry, Irish-style stout that is both rich and easy drinking. Roasty malt bitterness with a creamy palate - thanks to the heavy proportion of oats - this beer is made for having several of in short order.

VOLO ARIA
american lager, 4.5%
Easy drinking, refreshing and uncomplicated, Aria is an American Lager that goes down easy as a summer breeze. A very gentle balance of fruit and grain on the nose is followed by a crisp, snappy and bright finish.
WHAT IS CASK?
In the early days of draught beer, before metal kegs, CO2 tanks or refrigerated coolers, there was cask-conditioned ale. Unlike most beer, cask-ale does not complete its fermenting until days or even moments before it is delivered to the drinker, with a small amount of fermentation continuing in the cask from which the beer will be poured. Before tapping, a vent is opened in the top of the cask and the extra gas is allowed to escape, which is why cask ale is less carbonated than other beer. Your finished pint may be a bit cloudy, but should be mildly carbonated, slightly chilled and fresh and vibrant in taste.

Punters Gold has long been a House Ales favourite, making its debut back at the original Bar Volo almost 10 years ago. With an updated grain bill of premium English pale malt and all-American hop additions, this classic is sure to satisfy the thirstiest of Punters!

VOLO BRUNA
brown ale, 4.5%
Roasty, nutty and comforting, Bruna is a traditional Northern English Brown Ale that is intriguing yet approachable. Secondary notes of caramel and baking spice lend balance to the gentle hop bitterness and roast dryness of the Brown and Pale Chocolate malts. A full body, despite the 4.5% abv, Bruna is superbly sessionable - an ideal beer to enjoy on cask.

VOLO ZINA
english bitter, 4.9%
Malt-forward on the nose with notes of caramel and biscuit shining through, Zina is a classic and sessionable English Bitter. Although the malt character is predominant, we made sure to balance things out with an assertive hop bitterness. The generous hop additions of East Kent Golding lend a mildly herbaceous and black tea-like character.

VOLO GUS

Gus is a Robust Porter inspired by the classic London Porter beloved for its rich malt character and balanced roasty bitterness. Notes of chocolate, dark dried fruit, coffee and a mild roast finish. This beer drinks smooth and satisfying.

VOLO PICCOLA
dark mild ale, 3.9%
Piccola is a Dark Mild ale made in the English tradition of packing a lot of flavour into a very small beer. Piccola is satisfying and endlessly drinkable thanks to its reasonably low abv, dry finish, characterful malt presence and hint of East Kent Golding hops.

VOLO LUNA

Luna pays homage to the classic Bitters and Pale Ales best served on cask in the old pubs of England, which keep drinkability at the top of mind. This sessionable Pale Ale features East Kent Golding as well an aromatic dose of Marynka hops, which lend a spicy herbal character. A backbone of 100% Scottish Pale Ale malt upholds a crisp, dry and bitter finish, beckoning another sip... and another... and another...

VOLO NERA
black lager, 5%
Nera is a bit roasty with notes of chocolate and coffee. A traditional Schwarzbier, Nera is made using all German ingredients and is naturally carbonated for a delicate and creamy texture. The finish balances rich, dark malt flavours with a dry, thirst quenching drinkability.

VOLO AMBRA
vienna lager, 5%
Ambra is a malty yet crisp and clean Vienna Lager. Notes of biscuit, bread crust and a hint of caramel give way to a quenching finish that is dry and refreshing. Naturally carbonated, unfiltered and brewed using only German malts and hops, Ambra is a perfectly mature and refined refresher.

VOLO MARZO

Crisp, with a full-bodied malt presence, Marzo is our ode to Oktoberfestbier. Notes of dark rye bread, sourdough pretzel, autumn leaves and caramel. This beer drinks easy, despite it's 5.9% strength and with a dry yet malty finish you'll hardly notice that your glass has become empty.

VOLO ISOLA
italian pilsner, 5.3%
Isola is elegant and floral with a soft, fluffy texture. Brewed with premium Pilsner malt grown near the Adriatic coast and dry hopped with German Saphir hops, this Pils will transport you to an island-paradise-state-of-mind. Honey and cracker malt character with an herbaceous hop flavour.

VOLO ANTICA
Altbier, 5%
Brewed as an ode to the great Bierhalles of Düsseldorf, Antica is a crisply bitter yet malty amber ale. Notes of orange pekoe tea, dried fruits, a nutty maltiness and a peppery hop character combine to bring an intriguing yet overall quenching experience.

VOLO POLO
kolsch-style ale, 5%
We call this beer Polo - which is the Italian word for pole - and is an homage to the crisp, refreshing ales of Köln, Germany. A slight pear and apple fruit aroma is present, thanks to the top-fermenting yeast, followed by a clean, dry and mildly bitter herbal hop finish.

VOLO FORZA!
imperial stout, 9.5%
Notes of amaretto, dried dark fruits, coffee and cocoa lead to an unctuous, full bodied, inky black ale that finishes with only a touch of chocolate sweetness. An Imperial Stout made from premium English base malts, German roast and chocolate malts along with a delicate charge of English hops to balance things out.

VOLO MEZZA NOTTE
espresso milk stout, 5.9%
Mezza Notte is a velvety smooth, satisfying espresso milk stout. This beer has a rich, creamy texture thanks to the added lactose, whose mild sweetness is balanced by a robust espresso aroma and roast malt finish. The beer is both energizing and comforting, just like a midnight espresso after a great meal.

VOLO FERMIO
black ipa, 7%
Fermio is a bold yet smooth Black IPA. Rich malt character with a roasty, chocolate-covered coffee bean flavour is complimented by mellow citrusy hop aromatics and an unctuous finish. This beer was first brewed back at the original Bar Volo on Yonge Street in celebration of House Ales' 100th brew.
